George Emilio Sanchez’s solo performance work is the second installment in the ‘Performing the Constitution’ series. The performance revolves around landmark Supreme Court decisions that have diminished the tribal sovereignty of Indigenous nations in the United States. Part historical, part autobiographical, this play interweaves the experiences of Sanchez growing up in an Ecuadorian immigrant household going through generational trauma and indigenous identity. Sanchez’s intent is to affirm how the voices and experiences of Indigenous peoples and communities of color have the greatest impact on the story of who we are as a nation.
