Local Brownies wraps up community service project – Daily Local

KENNETT SQUARE — Brownie Girl Scout Troop 41293 from New Garden, Greenwood and Bancroft Elementary Schools recently completed their community service project. The girls created 15 “birthday in a box” kits to donate to KACS (Kennett Area Community Service). The “Birthday in a Box” contained all the supplies a parent would need to throw a birthday party for their child – cake mix, frosting, cake pans, candles, plates, napkins, balloons, a banner, etc. . items at Walmart and each packed a box. For the boxes, the troop recycled Girl Scout cookie cases. It was a fun way to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Girl Scouts.

In addition, the troupe donated 149 pounds of other food items which were purchased by the troupe and graciously donated by the girls’ families. KACS was very excited to receive the “Birthday in a Box” and food donations. They were convinced that the parents they serve would be delighted to receive one for each of their children.

Christa Evans, the troop’s head scout, said, “The girls in the troop loved buying the items and packing the boxes. Many wanted to make more than one box each. Their excitement will continue next year when they plan to do the business again; adding more opportunities to learn about budgeting, setting goals for donations, in addition to improving cookie selling skills and deepening the connection with KACS.
