The fund supports projects where there is an identified social need and which focus on education and employability skills among marginalized groups within 15 miles of the LNER road.

The fund has supported many different charities across the UK – supporting projects that tackle mental health issues, helping people suffering from loneliness and social isolation, as well as projects that improve opportunities for people to find work.

David Horne, Managing Director of LNER, said: “LNER is proud to serve our communities and support fantastic projects along the length of our route.

It is incredibly rewarding to see these projects succeed and lives improved through our Customer and Community Investment Fund and to know that LNER has played a small part in their success.

Lisa Hart, Deputy Head of Henshaws, said: “We are very grateful to have been chosen by LNER to receive the funds which have helped to transform the lives of many of our students.

It’s fantastic that students who have previously struggled with physical activity now have access to this outdoor equipment, eliminating barriers that many may face with a more traditional gym setting.

Further details of the application process can be found on the LNER website at: www.lner.co.uk/about-us/customer-and-community-investment-fund. You can also watch a video about the CCIF here.
