Each year since 2007, Franklin Templeton has recognized employees who make extraordinary contributions to their communities with the Harmon E. Burns Award. This year’s winner has had a profound impact in his community in New Delhi, India. The company also honored finalists in Hyderabad, India, and Baltimore, Maryland for their community service efforts.
The award is named after longtime employee Harmon Burns, who worked for the company from 1973 to 2006, occupying several positions at its northern California headquarters, including legal and compliance officer, director of operations, vice-chairman and member of the board of directors. He was a generous contributor to his local community, constantly giving to those in need. For example, he anonymously donated bulletproof vests to his local police station, handed out unused tickets for San Francisco Giants baseball games to children waiting outside the stadium, and sponsored games. employees during walk-thons and fundraising efforts.
Manmohan Singh Gandhi, Sales Manager at Franklin Templeton’s New Delhi office, won the 2021 Harmon E. Burns Award for his dedication and commitment to helping those less fortunate during the pandemic and improving the lives of marginalized people in the community from New Delhi.
Manmohan is dedicated to helping the community in a number of ways, through the company’s Impact Days initiatives and personal commitments to several nonprofits including Gyan Shakti Vidyalaya, The Earth Saviors Foundation and Gurudwara Nanaksar.
During the pandemic, Manmohan and his wife, Preeti, provided food for families who had fallen ill and could not cook for themselves. For 10 days, they provided three meals a day. Manmohan assisted parking staff at the New Delhi office to make sure they had what they needed during the pandemic. He was in constant contact with those affected and extended his help during the blockages, as well as his colleagues and friends.
Manmohan is attached to Gurudwara Nanaksar, a Sikh temple in Delhi that is home to over 50 monks. He and Preeti offer their prayers every day, provide clean food and utensils, and mop the floors in the gurudwara.
Alongside Manmohan, Franklin Templeton honored two other employees at a virtual awards ceremony earlier this month.
Lakshmi Doddapaneni, Hyderabad Department Coordinator, was recognized for her long-standing commitment and contributions to the most vulnerable people in the Hyderabad community through a number of inspiring community projects.
