First responders honor William Thomas for his community service with First Aid Lemonade

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The holidays are all about giving back, but for a boy Boardman, giving back is something he does all year round. Because of his generosity to first responders, they chose to do something special for him.

If you recall, William Thomas started First Aid Lemonade as a way to raise money for meals for first responders in the Valley. Since we first interviewed him, William has raised nearly $2,000 and continues to give back whenever he can.

Because of its great work in the community, word of what First Aid Lemonade does continues to grow.

Lt. Brian Charles of the Youngstown Fire Department found out about him through mutual friends and wanted to do something special for William through his small business, the Youngstown Flag Department, where the hoses of retired fire are reused.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, we gotta make this kid a flag.’ So we did. She plugged everything in and I called Kent Wright with KW Decals, who do all my stencils, and I was like, ‘Kent, look at First Aid Lemonade,’ and he was like, “I know everything about William, he’s awesome. Anything you need I donate,” Charles said.

William had no idea what was presented to him, his parents just told him they were going to the fire station and they had something for him. His mother wanted it to be a surprise.

“He was really excited. He couldn’t wait to get it home and find a place to keep it and is excited to display it at his upcoming lemonade stands,” said Colleen Thomas, William’s mother.

William says he is delighted to visit any fire department, but receiving a gift from one was really exciting for him.

“It feels really good to me and I feel like I’m making a difference,” William said.

“He appreciates us so much – we appreciate him. What he’s doing is awesome,” Charles said.

Charles also sells his flags to anyone who wants to buy something special and unique. He will be at Youngstown Flea on December 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check out his company’s Facebook page.

William is fundraising for the winter. He sells cups with the First Aid Lemonade logo on them. It’s launching on his Facebook page this week.
